John Nguyen serves as the Program Engagement & Data Specialist at Surfrider Spirit Sessions, supporting program implementation, mentor engagement, and outcome tracking. He also identifies opportunities to expand support for our teens. John approaches his work with a spirit of aloha and kuleana, ensuring program data is meaningful and honors the voices of youth and mentors.
John brings experience as a software engineer and community leader, with 10 years of experience in LGBTQ+ youth organizations, including Out in Tech and The Trevor Project. His background in technology and mentorship helps bridge program operations with data-driven insights, expanding SSS’s reach and impact.
John first fell in love with surfing as a mentor in our program. Outside of SSS and his work as a software engineer for Southwest Airlines, he enjoys being in the ocean and playing the flute semi-professionally.
