Kahu Malani Papa DeAguair is a protégé of the late Kahu Wendell Kalanikapuaenui Silva, who recognized her lineal gift of sight and spiritual insight and mentored her in blessings and spiritual rites. A graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Kapālama, she has served as Education Manager for West Hawai‘i on Hawai‘i Island for Kamehameha Schools, as a teacher for many years in the Department of Education. She is also a Hawaiian Language teacher for Hawai’i Preparatory Academy.
Her maternal & paternal great-great-grandmothers of Nānākuli & Waiōhinu, Ka‘ū, were respected lāʻau lapaʻau (Hawaiian medicinal) and hoʻoponopono practitioners, and Malani continues this legacy by helping families heal through prayer, discussion, and forgiveness.
She has shared her expertise widely as a keynote speaker at regional and local education conferences. Kahu Malani is also a Hawaiian culture teacher to incarcerated women in West Hawai‘i and a workshop presenter for educators across Hawai‘i Island.
In her free time, Malani loves to make lei and teach Hawaiian values and customs to her mo‘opuna (grandchildren).
